One Nation Parliament-Funkadelic site

The Board Room at One Nation is THE place to get your tanks filled up with info on all the P-related groups, including the All-stars--- Garry Shider, Lige Curry, Frank Waddy, Billy Bass Nelson, Cordell Boogie Mosson, Mike Hampton, Amp Fiddler, Steve Boyd, Robert P-nut Johnson, George Clinton... and a continually changing array of singers, slingers, clappers, flappers, etceterata.

Funk to the Max

A very nice funk site based in Amsterdam. Webmaster Marcel Visser has connects with P-funk alumni who are no longer resident on this side of the Atlantic, including Junie Morrison and Gary 'Mudbone' Cooper. Sometimes the regulars at One Nation gather at Marcel's chat room.

The Funk Store

This site has some serious funk happening and I like the layout-- simple and effective. Free RealPlayer video/audio streams of Maceo Parker, Ohio Players, Bernie Worrell, Ween, and others.

Stereolab Official Site

Their recent albums have been marvelously-textured experiments with heavy jazz elements and electronic coloring. They use vintage analogue keyboards and have some unusual vocal stylings by the three female singers. 'Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night' is one of the best albums I've heard in years.

Bernie Worrell & the Woo Warriors

Bernie was the original keyboardist for Parliament/Funkadelic and had a big hand in creating much of their most popular material, with a little help from his friends George Clinton and Bootsy Collins--- the songs they did together have been capitalized upon by hundreds of performers and producers, and even if you don't know who Bernie is, it would be nearly impossible to avoid his music, which appears on TV and radio very frequently, though he receives little or no legal credit or compensation for it. The Woo Warriors are one of the best live bands I've ever seen.

Bimini Road

This site has a book for sale by photographer Diem Jones, featuring rare photos of the Parliament 'Motor-Booty Affair' tour in 1978. I knew Parliament-Funkadelic had some theatrics to the shows, but the photos on this site show even more detailed costumes and stage sets than I had imagined. Of all the 'gimmicks' of the '70s, this group worked up some of the best, to the point that it no longer seemed like a gimmick anymore, but musical-theater to a very high standard of magic and inspiration.

Dave Smith's Sunday Brunch Breakdown site

Dave is an inspiration to many people, including myself, due to his continuing commitment to this bizarre tribe of musical pillagers. He might be the only one who really knows what's going on... so you better check the site. There are pictures of the SBB and Water In the Ditch Arkestra, MP3s for free, some good links, and info on some other music projects... including the Ill Logic MP3s!

Jello Biafra and Alternative Tentacles Records

Biafra was a key member of San Francisco punk outfit Dead Kennedys, and in addition to being an articulate speaker against globalization and public-utility privatization (recently he has appeared in a series of rallies with Ralph Nader), he also has one of the world's most eclectic record collections and has kept all his recordings available for many years. Recently he has been sued by former members of the DKs, and they won the right to remove his name from most songs he'd written and sell his anti-corporate music to Levi's commercials. this is one prime example of ill logic in action. Biafra is a great guy and really needs our support so he can devote more of his time to productive things rather than gathering money for his army of attorneys. hit the site and send him whatever you can because he's way in debt right now and it would be a shame to see his business suffer more.

Mackie power amps and mixers

We had a Mackie CFX-12 in the studio during 'The Think-Happener' and it was one of the nicest pieces of equipment we've ever used--- absolutely shimmering sound quality. However, it was quite an investment.... so thank Mackie for having a resale value high enough to buy a good computer because that's just what we did. Dave Smith at Sunday Brunch Breakdown website has a VLZ-1604 which we used to record SBB on New Year 2001, and the Mackie PA we had at Water in the Ditch 2000 was unbelieveably clean--- it made 'Abbey Road' sound like beer from heaven.

STRANGE ENTERTAINMENT

Acid Logic

A very funny, well-written site, edited by Wil Forbis. Frequently-changing articles about semi-obscure and influential musicians, filmmakers, and entertainment, from a psychotronic perspective.

Church of the Subgenius

For those of us who are willing to admit that we may be under more sinister control than is easy to explain in two paragraphs, the Church of the Subgenius is there to help us understand and appreciate the effort being given to these controls... and likewise helping us break the chains of oppressively stupid media and political trends.

John Carpenter's Official Site

From the horse's mouth, or his best hired mouth, lots of good info on one of Hollywood's best horror film directors, whose resumé includes 'Halloween', 'The Thing', 'In the Mouth of Madness', and most recently 'Ghosts of Mars'.

Obiwan's UFO-free Paranormal Links

Excellent supernatural links site. You can search the links by area, to find ghosts and unexplained phenomena near you. The 'Haunted Toys-R-Us' link halfway down the left side of the main page, is a good one. There's a site called 'Ghosts of North Portland' which details some events in our hometown.

Board Stiff Games

This relatively new site has already won one 'Site of the Week' award and is a great resource for unusual and complex games. Sam 'Capn Scurvy' McCanna operates the site out of Beaverton, Oregon.

Culture Junkie

Culture Junkie is a new website devoted to weird arts--- there are sections for movies, music, clothing, fine arts, and general ranting. The site was recently 'evacuated' and re-administered, so it appears somewhat barren, but I'm sure we can change that soon. Webmistress Nancy has a lovely assortment of sensuous candles and soaps, customized light-switch plates, and self-deprecating t-shirts for sale. Excellent Christmas gifts.

NEWS, INFO AND POLITICAL LINKS

Filmmaker/author Michael Moore

Michael Moore came into the spotlight with his 1988 film 'Roger & Me' which documented General Motors closing several major factories in the midwest, moving them to Mexico and other cheap-labor locations so CEO Roger Smith could give himself a raise while thousands of American workers went jobless and factory towns like Flint, Michigan were left to rot, merely at the whim of the rich who wanted to be richer. Moore is the author of 'Downsize This!' and 'Stupid White Men', the latter of which was nearly banned in the US. He updates the site almost every day.

Jim Hightower, America's Favorite Populist, and his Rolling Thunder Down Home Democracy Tour.

Jim Hightower is one of the most engaging participants of the left wing as we begin re-opening our minds. Too long the left has been apologetic, passive, and bland; Hightower is of the new regime of infotainers, like Michael Moore and Greg Palast, who are here to 'rescue democracy from the blahs'. His 'Rolling Thunder Chautauqua' tour has been attracting guests like singer Erykah Badu and author Studs Terkel as it tours the US inspiring the New Left to take action.

Greg Palast of The Observer

Greg Palast, author of 'The Best Democracy Money Can Buy', has kept a very thorough chronicle of George Bush Jr.'s election and the bizarre circumstances surrounding it. Palast has extensively interviewed people who worked for and were contracted by the Florida Voting Commission, and discovered a discrepancy of $4 million in their budget which was supposedly used for phone calls during re-count time, but the calls never appeared on any phone bill... not to mention the thousands of black voters who were wrongly marked as ex-felons and therefore disqualified from voting. Check out the video of the interviews he conducted in Florida.

Charlie Rose

Charlie's late-night show on PBS is one of the best talk shows ever. It's an hour long and is usually split, one half devoted to a one-on-one interview with some kind of artist (often an actor or director) and the other half detailing a political situation. Sometimes it's all political. If you don't need a studio audience to help you retain interest in people having a deep discussion, try Charlie Rose. He's also a correspondent for '60 Minutes II'.

NORML-- National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws

They have had an uphill battle in the face of prohibition, but are going strong and finding more allies lately, as it is becoming apparent that drug wars drive up drug prices, and heavy-duty capitalists know exactly how to make money in that situation. In fact that's one of the most basic tenets of Ill Logic-- "If you are able to make something illegal (or help it stay that way), you will get a cut of the profits when the prices jump through the roof." But then again, pharmaceutical companies are doing that too.... hmmmm....
